The Rare Pig Breeds
Our pigs are all kept in a natural environment within the woodland edge, making ther own nests with roots and branches.
Tamworth
The Tamworth pig is the only British red pig, and inherited its red colour from the Axford pig imported from the West Indies.
Unlike white pigs, it does not suffer from sunburn, as the pigments in the skin filter out the harmful ultr-violet rays.
A Tamworth can thrive outside, but needs "ringing", otherwise all its area would look like scrub land.
Middle White
A middle white pig is white in colour with prick ears and its most distinctive feature is its turned up nose.
It originated by crossing the large white and small white pigs. So, this breed is small and best suited for pork production. In the 1920's, it attained great popularity, but since 1945 it has rapidly become Britain's rarest breed of pig.
Wessex Saddleback
The Wessex Saddleback is a general purpose breed, know for its docility and therefore makes the perfect mother. It is a hardy breed, which makes it suitable for outdoor units.
